DigitalOcean is seeking a Manager for our 24×7 operations team. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Cloud Operations, this manager will be working with our existing 24×7 CloudOps team to monitor our cloud services, respond to problems, escalate to engineering where appropriate, and work to build and evangelize reliable processes and procedures that improve service quality and reliability.
Job Overview:
- Managing all staff, including shift scheduling, day-to-day logistics as well as career growth and development planning conversations, periodic reviews, goal setting, and performance management
- Owning the organizational structure as we scale to best suit the overall CloudOps mission, including hiring and attracting any needed talent
- Establish relationships with key staff outside of CloudOps to identify and remedy friction areas
- Understand common workflows, identify and eliminate inefficiencies, work to identify needs
- Keep track of escalation metrics and other team statistics, feedback to product and engineering of any opportunities for improvement
- Creation and maintenance of documentation, both technical and managerial
Requirements:
- Management experience running a global 24/7 team with shift constraints
- Understanding of Internet protocols, web standards, web and API service architectures
- Familiar with Linux, Networking, and Internet operation technicals
- Experience with monitoring systems at scale, methods, and tooling
- Operational mindset: RACI, ITIL, and process thinking
- Experience with Jira, Google docs, and other cloud tools
- A sense of ownership with ability to function independently on tasks and lead larger efforts once up to speed
- Comfort with making presentations to management
- Ability to influence and work outside your org to obtain initiative buy-in
