Software Engineer: Infrastructure Engineering (Fleet Lifecycle Engineering)

The Fleet Lifecycle Engineering team delivers on this mission by ensuring DigitalOcean’s hardware fleet is compliant, consistent and running the current supported OS/firmware.

Our Team: The person filling this position will report to the Engineering Manager of the Fleet Lifecycle Engineering team.  This team belongs to the Infrastructure Engineering organization, which is currently made up of a diverse team of mostly senior engineers located across the US, Canada, and Germany, and is supported by a Senior Director of Engineering. The team creates, deploys, manages, and supports the tooling necessary to manage and maintain the bare metal servers throughout the entirety of the business.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Help to bring support for new hardware into our automation systems

  • Provide guidance to other internal users on how to best access/use our tooling
  • Development of tooling and automation to reduce engineering toil
  • Helping to increase the efficiency and reliability of our fleet operations
  • Debugging when the inevitable goes wrong
  • 5-20% of your time is spent on innovation, education, and/or open source

What we’ll expect from you:

Experience managing bare metal hardwareExperience developing, testing and shipping reliable code

  • Experience troubleshooting OS/Firmware installation a plus
  • Familiarity with automation and orchestration tools
  • Experience operating and running redundant systems at scale
  • A reliability focused mindset
